In researching my gg grandfather Benjamin Smith, I obtained his death
certificate and found that his father and mother were Peter Smith and
Polly (Davis) Smith of Bloomville, Town of Kortright, Delaware
County,New York. I found their burial plot in the Riverside Cemetery
at Bloomville and their stones in excellant shape with Peter's birth
listed as 7 Nov 1799 and death 12 Feb 1868.I have lineage on Polly
Davis back to 1500 Scotland, but I have not been able to find
documentation of Peter Smith's birth and parentage. On the Smith plot
in the Bloomville Cemetery are the graves of Benjamin Smith
(1766-1823) and Polly Smith (1781-1843). They are definitely on the
same burial plot with Peter and Polly and have the same stone types.
Their ages would indicate the strong likely hood they are Peter's
parents, but I haven't found anything yet. As Kortright was settled
in the 1790's, after the Revolutionary War by settlers from Ct,RI,Ma
and Wales/Scotland area, I have nothing on where they came to
Kortright from. I need information on a Benjamin Smith born around
1766, who married and migrated to Kortright, New York around 1790.
The Kortright area was derived from Albany County 1683 to Tryon
County 1772 to Montgomery County 1784 to Otsego County 1791 to
Delaware County 1797, so the I'm trying to trace land evidence
through a maze of post Rev. War activity. Any help with my brick wall?
