Subject: Stamford Griffins a trip through the CAstkills

My husband and I explored Stamford and looked at the land at the interesection of Rt. 23 and Rt. 10 where my Jonathan Griffin was supposed to have bought 2 lots 216, 217 , around 1845. He lived there with his family until after 1860. Today, there is a Stewart Sandwich Shop and gas station and a deserted Red Carpet Inn!...Behibd these 2 places is a lovely Victorian neighborhood and a mill pond and stream and a huge old white hotel type building, probably built after Jonathan and his family lived there. There are no signs of older houses...there is an old barn behind the Red CArpet Inn, perhaps a remnant of an old farm (maybe my Jonathan's..who knows!) Does anyone know the history of his land and the hotel, etc? It is the land on the right, going west on Rt. 23..after Rt. 10 crosses. We had a wonderful time exploring Stamford..and a wonderful time coming through Rt. 23 after crossing the Hudson, at the town Hudson and the Rip VAn Winkle Bridge. We had gone Rt 44 in Ct
to Rt. 23... My Jonathan lived in Delaware, but was supposed to have been born in Greene Co....that's another mystery! The Castkills are beautiful and not crowded anymore...which is great! We stopped and had lunch at a country store in Windham, on Rt.23.....then went through Prattsville, etc...to Stamford...We left Stamford on Rt 10...went up to I-88and made our way back to Stockbridge, MA...very easily....nice trip and nice countryside!
