South Kortright was the home of Alice Throckmorton McLean,
daughter of the copper baron of NYÇ. They were multi-nillionares.
The estate was absolutely gorgeous. Alice entertained lavishly
and it was in this home that I was introduced to Eleanor
Roosevelt at a reception when I was a very young girl. I
understand that the estate is now a facility for problem boys.
Alice was the founder of the AWVS which became the WACS group in WW2.
