Subject: [NYDELAWA] Looking for Cousins - JONES, NEWTON, WINNE, SUTTLE, FISK,FIERO, BEADLE, etc
Date: Sat, 5 Apr 2008 19:10:30 EDT

John JONES brought his family to America from Wales some time after 1790 and
they settled in the Middletown area of Delaware County. He had at least 2
children: Jane and Robert. Jane married Samuel MILLS and Robert (1790-1874)
married Jane NEWTON (1789-1880).
Robert and Jane (NEWTON ) JONES settled in Andes in Delaware County and
raised a large family. (I believe they settled on Jones Hollow Road, just off of
State Road 28, half a mile south of New Kingston Road/County Road 6.) After
Robert’s death, 28 March 1874, the probate documents list the following
heirs and next of kin:
Richard JONES (Andes, Delaware County, NY)
Sarah JONES (Andes, Delaware County, NY)
Robert JONES (Andes, Delaware County, NY)
Catherine SUTTLE (Andes, Delaware County, NY)
John JONES (Middletown, Delaware County, NY)
Ephriam JONES (Middletown, Delaware County, NY)
William JONES (Middletown, Delaware County, NY)
George JONES (Middletown, Delaware County, NY)
Elizabeth FISK (Middletown, Delaware County, NY)
Jane FIERO (Middletown, Delaware County, NY)
The children of Abel JONES , deceased, (Westfield, Sullivan County, NY)
The children of Permelia Jones BEADLE, deceased, (Middletown, Delaware
County, NY)
In addition, to those 12 offspring, Robert and Jane had at least one other
child, a daughter, Adeline who died in 1841 when she was 11 months old.
My husband is a descendant of Robert's and Jane's son, Ephriam JONES (1817–
1894), who married Lana/Lena/Laney/Helena WINNE (1829-1902). Ephriam and Lana
had four children: Carrie (1858-1933) who married Alonzo PATCHEN
(1855-1922), Sarah (1861-?) who married Albert JUDD (1861-?), Charles Ephriam
(1868-1955) who married Eda Mae CHRISTIAN (1874-1960), and Christian (1870-?) who
married Miriam ?? (1870-?).
I've been attempting to ‘leaf out’ our family tree using census records,
cemetery headstones and some Jones wills and probate records. I have copies
of Robert Jones’ War of 1812 Military Record, Jane Newton Jones’ father’s
Revolutionary War Record, George Jones’ Civil War Record, and some land
indentures. Nevertheless, I still have many bare branches on this family tree. I
would love to hear from people interested in this family and am happy to share
the info I've collected.
A few years ago, I spent a day at the Middletown Town Hall transcribing
names and dates from the old vital records book. That was before I understood
how big this family was, and which names to look for. I may be in the area
again in early May, but wonder if there might be a more efficient way to
gather names and dates. Should I spend my short time in the area at the town
hall, or are there other sources which might provide more information?
I'd appreciate advice from people who have done research in the area, and
would love to hear from other Jones ‘cousins’.
Louise (Lou) Jones
