Sorry folks, I am a little late in coming in on this discussion but ...
1. I have a George Henry WHITE who was born 24 Mar 1826 in Delaware Co., N.Y.
son of Jesse WHITE & Jane ROBBE - I have been told, but I've seen no record to support it.
2. George WHITE m. Eliza Emeline REEDER in Mason Co., IL. 4 Apr 1848 and there is a record.
Go south from Mason Co., through Cass Co., and you are in Morgan Co., IL.
3. 1850 census George and his wife is in the household of Levi REEDER, but if one is not careful and aware of the relationships, one would NOT REALIZE that George is a different WHITE because Levi's wife was a WHITE and her unmarried sister A WHITE is also in the household. That is right, a WHITE married a REEDER and a REEDER married a WHITE, thus, I am blessed with two WHITE lines and as of 1750 those two lines have NOT come together to make one line. One in New Hampshire and the other in New Jersey.
4. I have no idea by what route George Henry WHITE used to come to Mason Co., IL. from Delaware Co., N.Y. Yet one hears time and time again that people traveled in group or followed friends or family to a new area (state, county or whatever).
5. So, Tom, who was the 'relative of this family' who moved to Morgan Co., IL. 'about 1838'? They started out in New York state, Orange Co., you said.
6. Adam Gaddis John McDougall Abram Sixbee -- these names are new to me .
7. If my George Henry WHITE has Scot or Scotch-Irish background would come as no surprise to me.
8. I have been told that George's father, Jesse WHITE was born 9 Aug 1782 in Peterborough, Hillsborough, N.H. [son of John WHITE & Elizabeth SMITH].
Jesse WHITE m. 22 Mar 1806 in New Hampshire to Jane ROBBE (b. 1780 dau. of William ROBBE & Elenor CRATON). Jesse WHITE d. 1854 in New York state. Jane may have died as early as 1836 or 1838. Or for some reason, George and his younger brother, Warren WHITE were given financial or some other kind of assistance by some family other than their parents [or that was the way George spoke of their youth - as recorded by his youngest child many years later].

A relative of this family moved to Morgan county Illinois
about 1838, and I thought that there might be
a connection. Doesn't sound it.

Thanks,
