After WWII my dad and uncles played in bands around the Margaretville area, and traveling up to 30-40 miles. They played at bar dances, schools etc, sometimes 3-4 nights a week. I remembering listening to them practicing when I was a kid. They ended in the early 60's and just played at family get togethers after that, but what great memories.
They were known as the Country Boys, but also played with other bands from
time to time. Here are some names:
George Hendricks (Dad)
Lavern Hendricks ( Uncle )
Everett Platt ( Uncle )
Frank Constable, Dr. Gilbert Palen, Hilt Kelly (Cousin & still Plays) Welton Platt & more......
We are related to the Kittles of Millbrook and they were big time fiddlers of the area in the early 1900's.
Also My Great Grandfather was one of the founders of the Margaretville Brass Band of the 1900-1930 era....
YT, George Hendricks Jr.
