Ann,
Then again, I WANT it to be Edward, as there is more info on him in the
records, apparently, than Stephen, and it makes the Neita connection all
that more secure; also, Edward fought at Gettysburg, which is my particular
interest, and Stephen apparently didn't.... so, I have to be careful not to
skew my conclusions toward my wishes. It would, in fact, be interesting to
know when Stephen enlisted, whether it was in the Spring of '62 with Edward,
or earlier, in late '61. If the latter, the fact that he's carrying a
non-regulation musket would point to it being Stephen...he might have had it
taken before the 56th was issued weapons, and it might be his personal
hunting rifle! Please feel free to pass the photo along to anyone who might
be interested. I purchased it from a guy in Masonville last Spring (who
bought it directly from Neita) and I was thinking of putting it on eBay but
I've gotten so caught up in the research, thanks to you and John and others,
that I don't want to part with it, now!
Best,
Charles
