Dear Dori:
No, I don't know why Orange was given that name. Information I got from
another PECK researcher told me that his name was William Orange PECK, but his
name on all documents I have seen (deed, death cert) was Orange PECK. Another
PECK researcher suggested to me that Orange was of Dutch extraction and that's
why his name was Orange and that his surname was probably originally
PEEK(E). This opinion probably derives from William of Orange who became William III
of England. We can be led down so many roads when we venture to do
genealogical research!

A grandson of the Samuel Hamblet who died in 1817, Masonville, Delaware
Co.,
was named Orange Hamblet. Do you know why Orange Peck was given that name?
I've always been curious about that name.

The picture at the bottom of the page of ALGER photos interests me because
my gg grandfather, Orange PECK, married for his first wife Charity ALGER,
and
for his second wife, Sarah VANDERWORKER, possibly the same family as that
of
Leona's mother-in-law, Georgianna Vanderwarker Fisher. Orange and his
family
lived in Sidney from about 1860 on. These ALGERs, VANDERWORKERS and
ELLISes
may have been well known to each other. I am looking for the parents and
siblings of Charity ALGER born about 1813.
