Terri,
Don't believe that I have a clue to who you are but you are one of the best
in my book. Thanks very much for the clipping from the Walton Reporter. I
tend to believe my old clipping of Willis came from the same place as the
family had a long time subscription. Bet there is a lot of history in the
files of the Reporter but I have not seen any links when I tried a few years
ago. Could we as a group send a petition to the Reporter asking them to
open and put online the old files?
Now to the amazement factor, All four of these men are the sons of Sands
(Sandford) Scudder who died in 1923 and Bessie Florence Rowe who later
married again. These men were something else, too bad someone did not make
a movie on them. Willis, according to later information I found, was one of
the first to release, and view one of the Nazi Death and Concentration
Camps. Very unusual for a Delaware County man. And now I have a short
quandry, I have included Willis in my book of family Soldiers and Sailors.
Now I get to add Glenford, John W. and Marvin Scudder to my list as well. I
really was trying to end the book, with a beginning of about twenty soldiers
and sailors it is now almost eighty. Thanks also to Steve McNeill who wrote
about the Scudder family and to Evelyn who found the Scudders on Steve's
page and sent it to me. I am only sorry that I can not find all the records
of the soldiers and sailors, so probably a number of distinguished awards
can not be recorded. On the other hand, interest from the family has been
great.
PS. Terri, I sent this to the Delaware list so others who have helped could
read this short story.
