Thanks Jerry ...

I've spent every summer of my life, save two, in Delaware County ... specifically Hancock and Deposit ... I am fifty now ... so I am pretty well versed with is also ... I remember when they were building the Cannonsville Reservoir ... I was just a sprout at the time as my Uncle Clarke use to call me ... but I remember when they were moving the graves ... what they did was, families would claim the graves and the government would pay to have them moved to the cemetery of the families choosing ... I remember go with my Uncle to the cemetery and I saw them digging some up one day ... much of my family was transferred to Riverview Cemetery in Hancock; Laurel Hill, Oakwood (Stilesville) and Pine Grove Cemeteries in Deposit; Hale Eddy Cemetery in Hale Eddy and Walton Cemetery in Walton ... I just came across a few on the list I hadn't noticed before that went to this New Cannonsville Cemetery ... no one seems to know where it is ... so I am assuming it goes by a different name ...

Someone said they thought it was on the road from Cannonsville to Hancock ... the road I always remember taking to do that was Sands Creek Road ... which is where the family farm was and I don't recall any cemetery there ...

Thanks again for your help

John

Joe,

Since growing up in Delaware County may give me an edge, I did some
searching as I was seldom near Cannonsville. However the simple answer
would be that the cemetery was moved to higher ground somewhat near the old
Cannonsville cemetery. You may have heard that Delaware county (hosts) or
was forced to accept the Cannonsville and the Pepacton reserviors. They
eventually feed NY City with fresh clean water so it can be wasted by the
city dwellers. Cannonsville was a small town a little east of Deposit (NY)
which should show on your maps. Route 10 is the major route though the
area. I did a search but could not find the New Cannonsville cemetery.
Perhaps a closer native will be able to help.
