There is a [no first name] Avery, age 25, "gardner", b. in NY residing in the
Birdsall family (husband, wife, and four children) in Elmira, NY in the 1850
census. Birdsall is a "carpenter and driver" (railroad work?) like others in
close proximity.
Some on-line census records only list the father or parents' names, so if there
are children, you'll have to find the parents' names first.
Good luck,
~Valerie

Message Board Post:
Seeking any information re: Avery/Every families in Delaware County. My
great-grandfather, Joseph Avery (his name was also spelled Every in various
records)b. 1825 lived in Ulster County, Town of Olive for the most part; he can
be found in the Ulster County census from 1860 to 1880 however I cannot seem to
locate him anywhere in the 1850 census -- he would have been about 25.
An online researcher gave me a few clues -- this nice person had access to the
1855 census of Ulster County -- which I do not -- in that census Joseph
apparently stated his place of birth as Delaware. State or County?? At this
point I am assuming County as I have not has much luck finding information on
Avery's in the state of Delaware at that time and the few I have located seem to
be well documented.
Joseph married Mary E. Davis who I believe was the daughter of Andrew B. Davis
of Marbletown, Ulster County. I have been working on this Joseph Avery for
several years now and I cannot seem to connect him to any of the numerous
Avery/Every families in Ulster County so perhaps he belongs to a Delaware County
Avery clan (?)
