I am writing this in my capacity as the Delaware County Historical
Association archivist. We're working on a list of Delaware County's
Civil War soldiers. I've been comparing our list to the Town Clerk's
registers that we've been able to get off Ancestry.com. For the Town
of Andes, I've found a name for which I cannot find any other
information. The Town of Andes register says that Abram Hallowell
enlisted in September 1864 in Co. E of the 144th. He enlisted in
Norwich and received an $800 bounty. The record goes on to say
'unknown,' meaning there is no further information about him. He does
not show up on our list, nor on the 1865 census. I also can't find
his name in the Abstract of Muster rolls nor does he not show up in
McKee's history of the 144th. If anyone has any information on this
gentleman, I'd appreciate know it. Thank you.
