We have been working on a puzzle for a long time with one CONKLIN line...
Mary Ann CONKLIN b. 1844 in Montrose NY claimed her grandparents were
Rebekkah DUTCHER and James PENDLETON on her mother's (Catherine PENDLETON b.
August 20, 1822, Fishkill Landing, NY) death certificate. But in a lengthy
news article on her ( Mary Ann's) life about one year before she died she
referred to her mother as Catherine BOGARDUS CONKLIN.
Now one of her children bears the name of James Bogardus Conklin, so that
would be understandable, But... we don't really know if her grandmother's
name really is DUTCHER, BOGARDUS or something else! We can find no record of
these people anywhere. There is a James PENDLETON in Shandaken, Ulster census
that might be him, but no records can be found of them in Fishkill Landing,
Beacon or anywhere around there.
Catherine PENDLETON married David CONKLIN b. 1820 who fought in the Civil
War. We cannot locate his parents or siblings either. We believe David was
born in Montrose area, but could have been born in Dutchess or Rockland
County as there are marriages across the river on down through the family.
I am also sure that there are other CONKLIN and DEPEW cousins in Dutchess
County . And possibly some COFFEY and DELANEY cousins.
I know at least one line of CONKLINS from my McCOY/DEPEW line are here. I
have 3 CONKLIN lines in Westchester County which I am sure didn't ALL remain
there!
If anyone is familiar with any of these lines ( or related) , it would be
sure nice to hear from you !!
