My face is red....I asked for anyone who had ties to Gilbert
Merritt........It turns out that I didn't read my notes closely
enough....the relative I shoud have listed in the message
was.........Charles G. Bolton, born 1849, died 1912 in Utah.
He was related to the Merritts through his mother.

If there is anyone on this list that claims Gilbert Merritt as an ancestor,
I really need some information.
I had been trying to trace John Merritt back through his father, Ebenezer
Merritt, as described in the "Revised Book of Merrits", and noted where it
said that Ebenezer Merritt was married to Keziah Clapp, but have never been
able to find anything in the IGI or elsewhere that says Keziah Clapp was not
born or married in Massachusetts. In searching the web, I found an Ebenezer
Merritt, who was married to Cynthia Willis in 1783 in Dutchess County, New
York. Their children were John Merritt, Ebenezer Merritt, Peter Merritt,
and Ephraim Merritt.
The John Merritt I have been looking for information on was born in Dutchess
County, moved to Yates County. In the IGI, Ebenezer and John Merritt was
listed by relative Gilbert Merritt.
Any takers?
