The Hudson River State Hospital was opened in 1871 on a 200-acre tract purchased from James Roosevelt.

Bowne Memorial Hospital, a sanitarium for tuberculosis patients was built in 1911 by Mrs. Bowne, widow of Samuel W. Bowne. This site became Dutchess Community College. The original building is Bowne Hall.

Hope this helps.

Marion
