I have been researching the lineage of Zephaniah Platt Mitchell since 1975 and have lots of information on the family. I am 7th generation lineage from James Mitchell m. Pheobe Smith Dutchess Co. NY. His brother was your Zephaniah Platt b. Apr. 4, 1779. James had a son he named after Zephaniah Platt and that name was continued down our line. The family moved from Dutchess to Ulster Co. then in 1837 they moved to Monroe Co. Ohio and then to Elkhart, IN in 1846. I have been trying to get farther back to find more about their parents William and Elizabeth Wynegar Mitchell.
My family eventually migrated to Mendon, MI. We live in Holland and I find it very interesting to discover your 3rd removed grandfather was buried in Newaygo. Please e-mail me soon with more info. Marsha
