Tried to access the Mead URL below but it is down.
Your best bet for gravestones (of people born before 1850) is Barbara Smith
Buys "Old Gravestones of Putnam County NY". The stones were reread and many
corrected (though it contains some mistakes). The old readings contain many
errors. Kent has since been reread and is probably the best covered. The
Kent Historical Society offers information.
I have found several Meads in researching Adams:
Polly Ganong married an Adams. She was deceased leaving minor children by
1804 when her father, John Ganong of Southeast, wrote his will. Also
mentioned were Polly's sisters Sarah Ganong, Hannah MEAD, Lucy MEAD and
Susanna Anderson (1775-1817),w/o James. Brothers mentioned were Reuben
(1757-1836), Edward, Peter, Ebenezer and John Ganong. John Ganong's will
proved 1807. Executors were "trusty friends" Reuben Ganong and Edward
Ganong. Witnesses were Thomas Hopkins, Isaac Ganong and James Gregory.
Hoping to get independent corroboration about the Adams the Polly Ganong
married.
Also Jesse Adams (s/o Justus) married Nancy M. aka Hannah MEAD (1801-1848) .
They may have married in Delaware Co. before moving to Chautauqua Co. NY.
They had two sets of twins.
I would like to see the Mead database.

I found the info about the graves being moved at a website called
www.meadburyingground.org /cos_cob02.html If you haven't seen the site, the
whole thing will be of interest to you but this link will take you to the
page that tells about the reburials. Someone else sent me a message that
she knew about the Russell/Mead cemetery and would be back with me after
Christmas so I may be able to share that with you, then. I have had many
responses to my silly post but that one always gets attention and thus the
waters are stirring. There are so many talented researchers out there that
have great info. They just don't know who else needs it. WE DO! LOL The
sharing of info is what makes all this work. I had a computer issue over the
weekend and have spent hours getting fixed so I haven't followed up on this
but I'll keep you informed on whatever I find out.

Most of the MEADs settled in the Town of Kent in Putnam Co., NY. Caleb MEAD
died in Fulton Co., OH. Is this where the Cos Cob cemetary is located?
What is the name of the cemetary were these MEADS were dug up and relocated
to the Putnam Cemetary? Where is the Putnam Cemetary located or was it a
cemetary in Putnam Co., NY? I feel that the Mead ancestor was William MEAD
and he came from England and settled in CT. I still feel that the break
through will be in someone having the time to search the vital, church,
will, and land records of Fairfield Co., CT.
