Thanks Jess it seems to be working for me now.
Perhaps the other day I was working with an imported file and that made
the difference.
Anyway it seems to be working for me now.
Thanks for the reply

I use Excel all the time, so I pulled up a spreadsheet and entered dates
from the 1800's in a couple different formats and I had no troubles.
Try
going into "Format" "Dates" and look at your settings.

Subject: [NYDUTCHE] Spreadsheet Formatting of Genealogical Dates

I'm wondering if any one out there can help me in regard to formatting
dates
prior to 1900 in Excel. It appears that Excel is set up to only work
with
dates after 1900, formatting of dates prior to 1900 adds 1900 to the
year
input i.e. 1873 becomes 3773. Does anyone know of the formula I can use
for
inputing dates prior to 1873 that will make them display correctly. I
need
to be able to do this to input the Dutchess County Poorhouse death data
I
am collecting and have it display, sort etc. correctly.

Is there any Web Design Program that will read/import in html an .xls
file
or do all tables have to be created in an html program. I want to get
the
Poorhouse Data I have collected organized, sortable and uploaded in a
table
format in as few steps as possible.
Any suggestions appreciated.

This may not appear to be related to Dutchess County Genealogy but once
I
can accomplish this it should be of benefit to many in the Genealogical
Community.

Thanks
Ginny
