THANKS for the note. I don't know much if anything abt these surnames. I am trying to figure out who my 2nd gt. grandfather "Joseph Doty's" 1st wife maiden name. I have reason to beleive that there might be a connection bewteen Sunderland/pattison/ Pettinger/Pettingill

Update: Jan. 28,2002 – Mary Pettinger enumerated with
Joseph Doty in 1850 could this be his Mother-in-law?
Assuming that Mary was related in some way, she may tie
In with the John Pettinger recorded in the town of
Farmington, Ontario County, New York in the 1840 Census.
In my New Jersey research, I noticed that there were Pittengers there.
