Subject: [NYDUTCHE] drowned in the Hudson River?
Date: Fri, 16 Jan 2004 23:25:12 EST
Any way of checking this out in a newspaper? Time frame would be
around 1794..........
<<Libbies mother, her brother and sister drowned in the Hudson River at
Newbury Bay, just above the Highlands, when Elizabeth was nine years old. She was
put out to serve a Dutch family, according to the customs of those times, and
suffered many privations and hardships. She was converted in a remarkable
manner when at 12 years of age, under the faithful labor of those early pioneer
Methodist ministers. Just about the Highlands on the Hudson River leading from
New Cornwall to Newbery, stood the old Ellis meeting house of Revolutionary war
times, of which she often spoke with deepest interest as the scene of her
conversion, and early Christian experience.>>
