I am wondering if there might be some connection here. I have an ancestor, a Content Canniff (called Tenty) who was born July 6, 1784 and died Nov. 10, 1850. She married Nathaniel Tompkins and they lived in the Esperance, Duanesburg areas in Schoharie and Schenectedy Counties in northern NY. Our family bible says Tenty's father was a Richard Cannif. That's all we know of him. I'm wondering if that Cannif family came from Coxackie, NY because there were some Canniffs there and it is near Kinderhook where Nathaniel's father, Stephen Tompkins lived. Does any of this mean anything to you? I'm also wondering about connections with an earlier Jeremiah Canniff of Phillipsburgh who had a son Richard and who wrote a will in 1763.
