For what it is worth, I was told and believe I saw on a NY Library or
Archives site, that you can not borrow NYS census from inter-library loan.
It has something to do with the fact that LDS did the filming.
As a matter of fact I tried to purchase some duplicate copies of state
census from the NYS Library a few years ago and was told that they are NOT
allowed to duplicate them for resale. You can purchase most everything else
the library has on film though. This might have changed recently and I
could be wrong and would like to know for sure if anyone finds out anything
different.
Now I know for a fact that you CAN borrow them at any Family History Library
branch.
Please visit my new website at www.ny-genes.com for a description of which
NYS census (or parts of them) exist.

Frank,
Here are two ideas that might help you - both based on the
holdings of the NYS Library in Albany.
1) NYS did state censuses every 10 years from 1855 to 1925 including a
1905 census. The online catalog (see below for link) to the NYS Library
includes a special search engine for ILL use. I'm quite sure you can
get a microfilm of the 1905 census. At least this way you could see if
that John Dillman was still at the hospital in 1905 to narrow your
search. The state census includes (I believe) a Death Schedule which is
an enumeration - without names - to people who died in the previous
year. You might just get lucky and be able to pin down your John
Dillman in the death schedule. I know this is a longshot but just
something else to try if you order films to see if he was living in 1905.
2) Use the NYS Library as an ILL source. Their card catalog is online
at: http://nysl.nysed.gov/ and is searchable by subject keywords. You
may find a related death index or other source there.

State Hospital in 1900 on the US Census yet no where to be found in 1910. I
suspect he died between 1900 and 1910. I have contacted the hospital being
told there is no record of his patient status. He is not buried at the
Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery. I was directed to contact the Town of
Poughkeepsie on Overocker Road for research. I prefer to do my research as
much as possible. I live in Alabama and therefore, my question. Is there a
library in Dutchess Cnty or the Town of Poughkeepsie in their holdings is a
tape of the HRSH deaths between 1900 through 1910 I might be able to borrow
on an interlibrary loan through my employer, Auburn University?
