Message Board Post:
I need to find a citation for a baptism in a paper on my family that's due to be published. For the life of me I can't find where I found it. I just went to the Local History Room of the Berkshire Athenaeum and went through all the baptismal records for all the churches old enough and did not find it. It seems to me that I must have found it somewhere because I didn't even know enough about the Palatines to imagine the correct names of a couple of that era as witnesses. I assume I got the location of the church wrong.
Maybe I need another pair of eyes. Is there someone who can look up the baptism of Joseph Van Gelder in church records for Kingston and Rhinebeck? Does someone have an idea where else I could have found it? The New York State Library has all the pertinent Kelly transcriptions.
Here is the passage as I have it in my paper.
Joseph Van Gelder, born July 14, 1722, baptized November 21, 1722 in Dutch Reformed Church, Rhinebeck, Dutchess County, N.Y. (Hoes 1980: ). Baptismal sponsors Joseph and Anna Reichard.
This has me so frustrated I just accidentally posted this to the message board of the wrong county!
Thank you very much for your help.
Debra Winchell
