I am looking for the family of George R. Reimer of NY (Dutchess County). I know that his mother's name was Elizabeth Reimer and she was born in about 1784 in NY. Richard Remer was listed in the 1810 and 1820 NY City Directory, and I have found an Elizabeth Remer in the Manhattan 1829-1830 Directory isted as the widow of Richard Remer. I am wondering if the Reimer name was originally DeReimer. Does anyone know of any instance that this is true? George Reimer was born in NY in about 1805 and married Jane Ann b. about 1810 (maiden name unknown) in about 1830. They moved to New Orleans shortly thereafter. I know they had family that remained in Poughkeepsie because death notices where requested to be put in the newspaper there in 1853. I can find DeReimers in Poughkeepsie, but I have not found any Reimers. It is also possible that his wife, Jane Ann's, family was the one in Poughkeepsie, but we don't know her maiden name.

Can anyone offer any suggestions or information?
