MARY HAWLEY WILL
FILED ON MONDAY
- - - - -
Provides For Care of Vault
on Her Farm Which Contains
Bodies of Her Son and Husband
- - - - -
ESTATE OF $11,000
The will of Mary HAWLEY, late of the town of Pleasant Valley, was offered
for probate in the surrogate's office Monday. The papers give the estate at
1$,000 real property and $10,000 personal property. Edward M. LAWTON. There
is a vault on Mrs. HAWLEY'S farm on the road between Salt Point and
Hibernia, located a short distance back of the house, which contains the
bodies of the husband son of the testatrix. In her will Mrs. HAWLEY states
that she wishes her executor to presere the family vault with sufficient
land, with egress and ingress, and that sufficient money to care for it and
keep it in order, at least $100 be deposited in the Poughkeepsie Savings
Bank, the income to be used for the purpose mentioned. Upon the death of
the executor, Mrs. HAWLEY requests that the surrogate appoint someone in his
place to carry out the provisions of her will.
To Isaphen LAUGHLIN, niece, the testatrix leaves the use for life of the
real estate upon which the testatrix has resided, and at Mrs. LAUGHLIN's
death it is to go to her daughter Belle H. BRUNDAGE. All household goods,
wagons, harness, etc., the testatrix leaves to Mrs. LAUGHLIN. The rest of
her property she asks to be divided according to the laws of the State,
which means to her heirs in the same ratio as though no will had been made.
The heirs are the following; Mary Elizabeth McINTYRE, Oscar McINTYRE, T.
Losee McINTYRE, Isaphen LAUGHLIN, and HULDA ROCKEFELLER.
-------------------------------
On a side note - I am of the understanding that the "Tomb" still exists from
someone who lived in the area years ago and has returned for visits to the
area of their old homestead since- this person related the belief that the
vault still exists and understood it was the lid of the one casket that was
made of glass. I hope to take a ride out to the area soon and see for
myself if it still exists - hopefully in good repair and locked up so the
Hawley Family can rest in Peace.
