Your's truly is mentioned in the article.
Be sure to read the Story Chat Comments - some of them are ridiculous
My comment is the one that begins "I don't believe there is anything sinister . . . . ."
What the article doesn't say is that there was a poorhouse on the property as early as 1831.
The Property was the Town of Poughkeepsie Poorhouse/House of Industry in 1831 when the Town of Poughkeepsie Overseers of the Poor sold the property to the County Board of Supervisors, it will be very interesting to see what archaeological investigations reveal. Later when the County built a "new" poorhouse in the Town of Washington, the County turned the property over to the City - abt. 1864 - the beat went on well into the 20th Century. The property certainly has a long and interesting municipal history (Town/County/City] and I'm certain still holds the answers to this and many other mysteries.

When it comes to Economic Development, Sameness is not a plus!
What are we building today in the Hudson Valley that will be worthy of preservation 50 years from now! 80% percent of everything ever built in America has been built in the last 45 years.
"The man (or woman) who feels no sentiment of veneration for the memory of his forefathers, who has no natural regard for his ancestors or his kindred...is himself unworthy of kindred, or remembrance."
-Daniel Webster
