Thank you to all those who responded to my earlier question; however, I made a typo - what I meant to ask was if anyone had any ideas as to why the mother would be left blank on a death certificate. On the death certificate from the state, my great-grandfather's (Aaron Knapp from Potter/Gorham area) mother was left blank. At the time of his death, he had three grown children who lived in the same town. It seems strange that they would not know who their father's mother was.
