Jenny LIND's Last Manifesto
By the following Card which appears in the New York papers, it will be
seen that Jenny Lind does intend visiting Western New York and the Canadas
previous to her departure to Europe.
Gentlemen: -- The remarks appended to the Card which Mr. BARNUM
publishes this morning, relative to the termination of his contract with
Miss Jenny Lind, are calculated, in some degree to mislead the public with
regard to her future intentions. Miss Lind has never authorized the
statement that these concerts are to be her last in America; the only
publication she has consented to is that of the close of her engagement with
Mr. Barnum, after One Hundred Nights. The fatigue and exertion incidental
to such long and continuous effort, make it necessary for her to enjoy for
some time repose and relaxation.
After that, she may, if her strength permits, make a short tour, in
Western New York and Canada, in order not to disappoint those who from
expecting to hear her at home, have refrained from visiting the Atlantic
cities.
I am, Gentlemen,
Yours respectfully,
Max HJORTSBERG,
Sec. to Mlle. Lind.
July 29 1851
We learn from the Rochester papers that the amount of premiums received at
the auction sale of tickets for JENNY LIND's second concert in that city,
was $2501.41, which amount was disposed of as follows:--
Rochester, July 25, 1851-
N.F., PAINE, Esq. Mayor:
Dr. Sir: -- I herewith send you the sum of $2501.41, solic'ting that you
will please dispose of the same in the following manner, viz:
Rochester Female Charitable Society, $800
Rochester Orphan Asylum, $500
Rochester Catholic Orphan Asylum, $300
Home for the Friendless, $300
German Lutheran Church, $200
Rochester Cartmen's Benevolent Association, $200
Firemen's Benevolent Association, $201.41
I remain Dr. Sir,
Yours respectfully,
JENNY LIND
A TURK IN ALEXANDER
At the Camp Meeting in Alexander on Sunday last, a Lady appeared in full
Turkish Costume except the head-dress. She was of course "the observed of
all observers," and her tiny feet surmounted by the Pantaloons, attracted
many a graceless eye that but for them, might have rested on more spiritual
things.
CATTLE SHOW AND FAIR
The 12th annual exhibition of the Genesee County Agricultural Society,
was held in this village on Thursday and Friday last. It was numerously
attended, and such a grand display was made as clearly to prove the great
utility of the Society in the promotion of our agricultural and
manufacturing interests.
As a large portion of this paper is devoted to the publication of a full
report of the Committees furnished us by the officers of the society, we
have no space for any remarks, further than to say, by way of showing the
extent of the exhibition, that there were on the ground 175 sheep, 120
cattle, 24 swine, and 180 horses, mares and colts.
Ambrose STEVENS, Esq., delivered an address before the society, which
was listened to by a large and attentive audience, in the spacious new Hall
in the old Court House. We hope to obtain a copy of this address, for our
paper, but in the meantime will take occasion to say, that although chiefly
extemporaneous, it was the best, and most practical and will be the longest
remembered, of any address yet delivered before the society.
