Has a monthly newsletter to which I subscribe. The following was in this
most current edition and I though appropriate to this site. Any comments?

RULES FOR TEACHERS
1. You may not marry during the term of your contract.
2. Schoolmistresses shall not keep company with men.
3. You must be home between the hours of 8:00 P.M. and
6:00A.M. The exception shall be to attend proper school
functions.
4. You may not loiter downtown in ice cream parlors.
5. You may not travel beyond town limits without the
written permission of the chairman of the board.
6. Schoolmistresses may not ride in any carriage with a
man unless he is her father or her brother.
7. You may not smoke or partake of tobacco in any form.
8. You may not wear bright colors.
9. You may under no circumstances dye your hair.
10. Schoolmistresses must wear at least 2 petticoats.
Schoolmasters shall wear a suit coat and suspenders.
11. Dresses must not be any shorter than 2 inches above the
ankle.
12. To keep schoolroom neat and clean, you must:
*Sweep floor at least once a day
*Scrub floor at least once a week with hot, soapy
water
*Clean blackboards at least once a day
*Start fire by 7:00 A.M. so the room will be w a r m
by 8:00 A.M.

GREEN COUNTY SCHOOL BOARD

The panel above is rumored to have been found behind the wall board
during the recent conversion to apartments of the old Mansion Street
Coxsackie High School in Greene County, New York. "Greene" is
misspelled but that wouldn't be unprecedented.
