As part of the JewishGen Online Worldwide Burial Registry (JOWBR) effort,
we are attempting to coordinate collection of Kurlander grave information
in the NYC area. Progress is being made but we need volunteers to help
out with a variety of tasks. The database already is at over 300 names
and another 300 names need to be entered from the cemetery that just contributed
its maps and records.
Thirteen cemeteries have been identified in the New York City area and
contact has been established with most. Two cemeteries have so far have
agreed to turn over their records, but other cemeteries will require visits
and in some cases inspection of each tombstone to build the
database.
Please let me know if you can volunteer to:
* Make a site visit to collect data
* Make a site visit to do photography (own camera required)
* Do data entry on site at the cemetery (own laptop computer required)
* Do data entry at home with forms, maps, photos, etc. we supply you
The targeted cemeteries are:
Beth David (Elmont)
Mt. Carmel - Queens
New Mt. Carmel
Mt. Hebron
Mt. Lebanon (NY)
Mt. Moriah
Mt. Neboh (NY)
New Montefiore
Washington (Brooklyn)
In addition progress has been made at these cemeteries:
Mt. Zion - have partial information that needs checking plus several more
societies to go at the cemetery
Mt. Golda - information completed
Riverside (Saddle Brook) - information received needs data entry
Grove Street & South Orange Ave. (Newark)-- information completed
In addition if you are already planning a visit to any of these cemeteries,
please let me know.
Once we know who is available to help out on this project and what tasks
you can help with, we will coordinate and be in touch.
For site visits we will coordinate basic supplies, although other volunteers/contributions
would be appreciated. You will be required to provide your own transportation
(we can try to arrange car pooling if possible).
If you can help out please contact me at .
