Dear Carolyn,

Thanks for the ship's list that you sent. I do appreciate all your help even though I have seen this list and will keep it on file. These people may very well be relatives of my Johannes and Magdelena but the ages and names of the children do not match except for Carl. I have found that so many of the names just seem to repeat themselves through the family and other generations. So, it can really be confusing.

Some OKS did find another family, spelled SPONHEUNR (misspelled or just transcribed incorrectly) with the correct parents names and birth dates or should I say ages. There were some other children also added, apparently twins Elize and Adolph. I have and Adolph or an Otto in some later census' with about the same birth date. However, the girl just disappeared, I guess died very early. It seems that they interchanged or just changed the name of the boy after awhile. They apparently came in June 24, 1864, embarking from Havre, France, on the ships Goeschen. They originally came from "Bavaria", in Germany. I know that there were ten children, even though I have some info and DC's for only 5. I am thinking that this may be the faily but am also trying to find some documentation on it.

I would love to be able to find some earlier census' (1865 -70-75, if possible ) or directories to try and find this family and later ones as well. Most were laborers and so most likely wouldn't be in any of the business pages. Johannes died in 1880.

Thank you again so much. Keep your eyes open for any SPONHEIMERs or any other variations on the name.

Incase anyone else on the list finds any of these names anywhere please let me know' The original family that came over and lived in the US were Carl, ( I think twins Adolph /Otto), Christian, Louis, Julia and Frederick (my husband's grandfather). I also think from other census' was a John and probably two others, maybe also a Peter born in 1873. I found a bank book sometime ago with scribblings in it of German (VERY OLD) with some dates and names in it, very hard to read.

Very sincerely,

Marilyn SPOPNHEIMER
