Message Board Post:

My Great Uncle Winfield Scott FRIEND died during WWI. He served in the Calvary in Fort Sill, Oklahoma. He was thrown from a horse, developed cerebral spinal meningitis and died at the age of 18. The date of death 23 Jun 1918; and date of burial 29 June, 1918.

He is buried in Cypress Hills Cemetery, Brooklyn and was given a military funeral. "The entire family marched down the street to the cemetery." Parents names were William Henry Clay and Annie L. Friend and there were 9 siblings.

I've tried to find this info in the Brooklyn Eagle, but couldn't find online info after 1902. Perhaps someone here can find his obit for me. I thought possibly since it was a military funeral, there might even be an article in the paper.
