Catherine, I recognize the pastor's name. It was the address that had thrown me off. The address you have was Pastor Bernhart's residence.
The German People's Church (in German: Deutsche Protestantische Volkskirche) was a German Reformed Church, founded in 1891. Pastor Bernhart was the church's first pastor. The church itself was located at the corner of Throop & Myrtle Avenues, which kind of straddles the Williamsburg and Bushwick sections of Brooklyn. In 1906, the church moved out to Ridgewood, Queens. In 1917, following America's entry into World War I, the church changed its name to St. Mark's Evangelical Reformed Church, a name that was less "German national" sounding. The German Reformed denomination was one of the denominations included in the 1957 merger that created the United Church of Christ. So today, the church is called St. Mark's United Church of Christ and is located on Onderdonck Avenue in Ridgewood, Queens.
