Yes, it seems you are right on target. They must have been living together because they list the names of May's children in the 1930 census. But May declares them all with the surname of Gabler and states, apparently in error? -that the family hailed from Wuerttemberg, but their ship manifest states that they were from Kolmar Prussia, which is now part of Poland. I seem to recall that May's daughter Anna married in King's county in 1936, but am not sure.
In the 1930 census May declares that she is Thomas' 'wife' - but I suspect that is not unusual for people to make such declarations under the circumstances.
I could find no trace of Paul's name in the Social Security death records on line.
