This is most interesting! My hat goes off to you. I had the info from the 1930 census...if you note, May crossed out her age '40' and wrote in smaller letters, '42'...but I don't know why because May Lenhardt was born in 1890, so 40 would be her correct age! Also, she listed her name as 'ANNA" on her marriage certificate, but Anna was her daughter! What was going on here?!!!!
Her name is listed as MARY LENHARDT in her marriage to Paul Gabler in 1910~!
May I ask how and where you found the information pertaining to Thomas Gabler ending up in a Catholic run institution???? Can we find the name of this orphanage? I wonder if it still exists or what happened to its records? Would Kings county hold any records in this regard?
Why just him and not the girls? Are there any other prior census records which might list their whereabouts or any other way to trace the history of this family?
Are any photos available of any of these people, I wonder?
