Re Thomas Conde, I can assure you that he DID apply for a SS number. Thomas who married May died in 1971, I think, and Thomas Conde [Gabler] died two years later, I think. I also believe he was a career soldier in the US miliary! Would that help? Are such records available? I don't know for certain if he used Conde or Gabler in the service, but I would bet it was CONDE.
