You can't assume just because its an 'official' census it is correct.

I have had a Gr-grandparent listed as 20, 36, 38 in consecutive censuses. They were done by people and people will err.

This same Gr-grandparent was born to Irish immigrants, yet in 1910, his parents were listed as being born in NY. - Most likely the census taker missed asking, and just marked what the rest of the family had down for their parents.

Censuses are a great source of information, but remember they can hold errors too.
