I saw the following in a recent digest and it made me take a look at a birth
certificate I have on file as the street name and the address seemed to ring
a bell.

"I'm trying to locate Thomas Gray & his family in any 1890s directories.
They arrived in 1881 and lived in an infamous tenement house at 362 Hicks
Street near Pacific St. "

Is there a story to this area? My g-grandmother was born at 361 Hicks St
where her parents lived in 1864. Her name was Mary HAND. Her parents were
James HAND and Mary McDONOUGH.
