As per various records found so far:
Sailor Frode Elias Winter Nilsen, born 7 July 1898 in Larvik, Norway, emigrated to USA in 1916, and served as a US private soldier i World War I (army record 1917 to 1919). However, I cannot find him officially recorded as emigrated from Norway/immigrated into US until 1923 after a visit to Norway.
(Additional query: Can anyone help find his original immigration in 1916/his enlistment to the US Army and maybe where he served during the war?)
Ref. NYC Grooms Index Records, Certificate Number 6296 (Frode Nilsen's given name has been written Flrode):
08 May 1926 in Kings, New York he married, but wife's name not given.
Ref. Census 1930: His wife's name is Margaret, maiden name unknown, she was born in New York of Norwegian parents in 1906. (In Social Security Death Index 1 June 1992 recorded as Margaret I. Nilsen, birth 7th July 1906).
Ref. relatives in Norway: They shall have had at least 2 children, 1 girl of unknown name, and 1 boy named Frode.
Ref. Census 1930: Frode Nelson, wife Margaret and a daughter Frances, then nearly 2 years old, living at 8th Ave., House no. 871, Dwelling 54, Family 97 in Brooklyn, Kings, New York.
Can anyone help find Margaret's maiden name and thus her correct parents? (I have found altogether 17 potential Margaret candidates with Norwegian parents!!)
I shall be very grateful for any help, both with Margaret's parents, and also possibly with Frode's original landing in US as well as his military 'career'.
Best regards Britt Rahman, Asker, Norway
