Message Board Post:

I am researching my GGgrandparents who, according to family story, eloped about 1874-75 in Brooklyn. I have checked the NYC Groom and Bride Indexes at http://www.italiangen.org/NYCMarriage.stm, searched the LDS films of the same, and written to Brooklyn and Manhattan for a search there.

Also checked Brooklyn Eagle listings with no luck, but assuming that it was an elopement with unhappy parents, I'm not surprised it's not listed.

Groom: John Gerard Gibson b. about 1842, Savannah GA
Bride: Susan Louisa Farrell (or Miller) b. about 1855 in New Orleans and relocated to NYC. Her surname varies from Farrell to Miller probably because her family was not in favor of the marriage and she was trying to hide her identity.

Any suggestions for where a couple would run for a "quick" marriage from NY would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Suzanne
