Phyllis:
Sorry I can't be of any help but had a situation I have never figured out.
My ancestors, Edward and Catherine Mott, lived in Lee, Oneida co., NY. On
the 1850 census, Edward, Catherine and their 4 oldest children are living in
Whitestown, Oneida Co. The 4 youngest, 6, 4, 2 and 6 months are in the
asylum in Whitestown. They are the only children there, everyone else seems
to be adults or late teens. The baby must have died because I have never
found anything on him but by 1855 the entire family is reunited. Now there
are brothers and sister and parents of Edward and Catherine near by, in fact
a very large extended family. Why would the 4 youngest be put somewhere,
especially a baby. If Catherine was ill, the older daughters were old
enought to take care of the young children.
I sure wish I could figure this out. Any ideas?
Debbie
