Hi, List, In re-reading the directions for the 1939 farm register, I was somewhat in error in my last message. Actually the first location given referred to a "compass address" or zone on the map that is missing. But the second location is the post office address. For example:
Anderegg, Albert 8SW Rome 29R RD1 Verona
Rome is a "Compass Center". The farm is located 8 miles south west of Rome. The house number was 29 and the road was R, as labeled on the map. So with the map a farm could be pinpointed exactly.
Too bad we don't have the map. Chas
