Dear Dan,

My name is Joan Beebe Meddaugh formally of Candor, NY now of Portland,
Oregon.

My Ancestors, Hiram J. Beebe married Ellen Amelia Hills and is buried in
N. Brookfield he died in January 6, 1906. Do you have any records on him
or his wife? I don't know for sure when his wife died.

In July of 1899, two months after my dad was born they moved from
Earville, NY to Candor to start a newspaper with the help of a Frank
Spooner. ( You might find of interest a book written by Donna Tanney)
She is a member of the Spooner family. The name of the book is called
The Eternal Hills. Its not only historical, meaning that there is family
linage mentioned but also a story of how our two families became one. An
about other members as well. In the back of the book is the family
tree. It doesn't go directly into the Hiram J. Beebe linage but stops
just short of it with listing Amelia as the youngest of the Frank
Spooners five daughters.

As it is right now I have a problem. When I read the book, it mentioned
that Hiram Died in January of 1906 and was buried in Brookfield and later
his wife Amelia. But here is the problem.
When the obit was written by by his son Will L Beebe her name Amelia
wasn't mentioned but the name Ellen Louise was. There definitely wasn't
an Amelia mentioned. So I looked on the net.
It was there I found her listed as Ellen Amelia Hills Beebe wife of Hiram
J. Beebe with Children Will Lyman Beebe and Winifred Beebe and James
Hills Beebe. Now to confuse me more was this.
I called back to Candor yesterday to talk with the person who is in
charge of Maple grove cemetery. I asked him if he would look in his list
of burial sites which were listed on index cards to see who all were
listed as buried in the Beebe burial site.
He started with Will L. Beebe then his wife May A. Payne ( who was from
Eaton, NY. she died in Candor in Feb. 1922. Will then married Anna
Personious of Brookendale, NY in 1923. Will died in 1934 Anna died in
1954 both in Candor. Next listed and this is where I have no idea as to
who she is or how she is related to the family but her name is Ellen N.
Beebe died in 1928. Then my parents C. Arthur who died in 1963 and
Dorcas, who died in 66.

I am just starting out in finding out about the Beebe family linage.
I was told and so was my cousins that we were related to the James Hill
of the Rail Road Hill. But so far I can not find any connection with
them at all. But there is a connection with the James Hills family from
Brookfield.

I am wondering if you have found anything about the Beebe family your
search of the cemeteries in Madison County?
If you have or even if you haven't I would like to know. Some of the
information I have found out on the net needs to be corrected.
So any help you might give me is appreciated. I don't care if it is
just a name of some one I can get in contact with.
