This is just a thought, but have any of you thought getting in touch with
the town clerk in the town that the person died in rather than writing to
Albany for the info, that is what I have done.
And I know for a fact that when I wanted copies of certain death
certificates all I had to do was call or write the Town Clerks office in
the town that the person died in and ask for a copy of the certificate.
I am not sure of the price but I know that last summer it only cost me
$10.00. And if I remember right it is up to the Town Clerks office to
decided on how much to charge.
Years ago when my dad was a town clerk I seem to remember, that he has
authority to give out copies of death certificates. All one would have
to do is know the date or at least approximate date of death, and the
town and county the person died in. And if you know them then you
shouldn't have any problems in getting your info.
If your in need of a phone number for the Town Clerk's office in the
village that your ancestor died in. Try the yellow pages.com you will
find it on the net. It's free, and you can find lot of info on it. It
sure beats calling a operator for their help.
If you can't find it there please write me, and I can look it up on my
computer. Also NYS has a list of all the Town Clerks offices for the
state of NY. A person can write the archives office requesting that list
as well. It comes with a bunch of other stuff that is well worth having
as well. That is what I did.
Hope this info is helpful to all of you.
