Hello.

I am new to this list and would like to take this opportunity of posting my
interests.

My g.g. grandfather, William SAUNDERS was born in Cornwall, England in
1805.
He married Susan TYRIE in London in 1829. They and their children
emigrated to the States in May 1850 and eventually arrived in Rochester
C.1852. Their ninth and last child, Oliver Walter SAUNDERS, was born in
South Union Street on August 18, 1854.

William and his various sons carried on in business as Carpenters and
Builders from Mill Street, Nr. Exchange Place and subsequently 'Rear 34 N.
Washington & Scott Alley' according to the Rochester City Directories.

William died January 1878 and Susan March 1882 in Martin Street and are
both buried in Mount Hope Cemetery.

By the 1880 Census, at least three sons and one daughter were still living
at home in 9 Martin Street and unmarried with ages ranging from 24 to 45
(the 24 year old, Oliver, died only four years later and still unmarried).

The eldest son, my g.grandfather, was the only one who settled in England.

I should be delighted to hear from anyone who might know of this family.

Best wishes.

Stuart,
Edenbridge, Kent, U.K.
