Hello Everyone,
For those of you who need records for Sts. Peter and Paul in Rochester,
please go to your local LDS Family History Center and order the microfilms
from Salt Lake City. The original books are small, so reading the films can
be somewhat challenging, but I was very successful in obtaining family
information (Goldsmith family) from these films. Also, I think the original
books from a certain period in the 1800s are now located elsewhere in
Rochester (a seminary school or something like that. I can't recall exactly
- it's been a while). So, it definitely will be a lot easier to go through
the Family History Centers. Unfortunately, I also do not recall for what
years they have the records. I do know they have them from the beginning of
that parish, around 1845 and at least until 1870 or so. Beware, since it
was a German Parish, the names will be in German (for example, I always
understood my g-g-grandfather to be Jean-Baptiste Goldsmith. In the parish
books he is Johann Goldschmidt, as are his children and wife named
Goldschmidt, even though his wife was French.)
Good luck!
