Barbara,

Sorry to be getting in on this late, but I also have family who live there
way back when - my 10g-grandparents, John E. OLDFIELD (b. unk., d. 1694) and
Sarah POST b. 1639, d. aft 1698).

My copy of DeLorme Mapping's "New York State Atlas & Gazetteer" shows
Jamaica (p. 25) in Queens County, NY, north of JFK Airport, and just east of
I-678. I hope that helps!
