Surname: TROTT, SHOESMITH
-------------------------
Looking for information on the TROTT surname in the Rochester / Pittsford
areas of Monroe County in the period between 1830 and the early 1900s.
My 2x Great Grandfather, Daniel TROTT, emigrated from Bavaria, Germany,
probably in the 1830's. His wife, Louisa SHOESMITH, came with her parents
& siblings from Sussex, England, and the SHOESMITH family was living in
Pittsford at the time of the 1840 census. By 1850, Daniel & Louisa TROTT
had moved on to Berlin Township, St. Clair County, Michigan. The SHOESMITH
family also come to Michigan by then and settled about 8 miles away in
Almont Twp., on the Lapeer Co. side of the border with St. Clair Co.
In the early 1900s, a female cousin named Queenie TROTT from Rochester,
NY, visited my grandparents several times. In that Daniel & Louisa had
only one son and all his children are accounted for, this suggests that
Daniel must have had relatives from Germany who also moved to the Monroe
Co. area and remained there. The 1890 Rochester City Directory listed several
individuals with the surname TROTT, but I have no idea which ones might
be related to our family. Is anyone else researching the name in Monroe
Co. or Germany? I'd be happy to share any data I have on Daniel's descendants
or Louisa's ancestors who I've traced back to about 1700 in England.
