Subject: [NYMONROE-L] look up request scam
Date: Fri, 12 Jan 2001 10:30:21 -0500
This week I got several requests for look ups in a book I have on the
Slocums. I like doing it because people have helped me and one day I'm
hoping someone will find an ancestor of mine.
The problem is that this time someone requested information which I spend
about an hour on and later said she was using it to write a Herigate book -
her home based business. I feel ripped off. Has this happened to anyone
else? How do you feel? I don't suppose we can differentiate between real
descendants and people who want to make money form the information but it
sure change my attitude.
The emails from this person are included below if you want to watch out or
warn others.

Janet, That would be ever so kind. My sister in law is married to his grt.
grt. grandson, Lester Jr. Slocum.
I am much interested in United States and his life.
Thanks for replying and sharing.
Have a great day. Chris Kern
Janet and Bill,
Thank you so much for this information. It is so nice of you to spend the
time sending this information. My brother in law will be very happy to see
this sunopsis of this family. He is a direct descendent to this Slocum
family. Yes they hold alot of interest even to me. You see I make Heritage
Books and I have made a small business of it , out of my house, so anything
I can find, is icing on the cake, which you so kindly are helping me with.
God Bless you both. Chris Kern
