Dick Halsey is correct in saying that you can't get the virus from Rootsweb.
However, if someone on the list has put you in their email address book and
they get the virus it can send the virus directly to you.

Anti-virus is indeed a good buy. I recently saw Norton anti-virus plus
their firewall for $9.95 after rebates. The most recent version of Norton
can be set to automatically update itself in the background when you go
online.

Be particularly wary of generic sounding messages on the order of "I think
you will enjoy this." When I send people attachments, I frequently send
them another email first describing what I plan to send so they will know
what to expect.

The truth is that this and all mail lists on Rootsweb will not allow
you to attach a file to messages sent to the list. They will bounce back
to the sender with a message about attachments. So these lists are safe.
I got a virus sent to me last week as a file attachment in a personal
message. I am using Norton antivirus and it easily caught it. McAfee
works just as well. If you don't have a anti-virus program, get one now.
Also for these programs to work well they must also be kept up to date
by downloading the most current update. The small cost is well worth it.

P.S. Did anyone notice that Snow White is misspelled?
